Maureen
Anthony McGee grew up near Liverpool, Nova Scotia. She studied piano
from the age of four, with her mother, Nancy, and Miss Evelyn Rieser. As
a youth, Maureen won many awards in voice and piano at the Kiwanis
Music Festival and was the recipient of numerous scholarships to attend
Dalhousie University to study music. She received her Bachelor of Music
Education in 1986, having studied piano with Lynn Stodola and Tietje
Zonneveld. While at Dal she was accompanist for the Dalhousie Chamber
Choir and pianist for the award winning Dalhousie Trio.
In 1986 she became the first accompanist for the Halifax Camerata Singers and began her music teaching career with the Dartmouth District School Board. Over the years, she has worked with the Nova Scotia Choral Federation as teacher and accompanist for various programs. Maureen is a former director of the Halifax County Girls Choir, and has accompanied the Nova Scotia Youth Choir. In addition to her work with Xara, she is also accompanist for the Bay Chorale and Music Director at Fairview United Church.
